In January 2011 Sothebys in New York held the auction Important Old Master and 19th Century Paintings from the Collection of Jacob Elie Safra, which included the work Trompe L'Oeil Of A Bookshelf With A Terracotta Relief by Julien-Léopold Boilly. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 150,000.00 – 200,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 152,500.00 (€ 111,192.13) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Trompe L'Oeil Of A Bookshelf With A Terracotta Relief is the most expensive artwork by Julien-Léopold Boilly that we have observed at auctions so far.
