The sitter’s husband, Jan Miense Molenaer (c. 1610-1668), as recorded in the post-mortem inventory of his effects, on 10 October 1668 (op. cit. infra). | (Probably) Samuel Vanderplank, London merchant of Dutch extraction, by circa 1700, and by descent to the present owners.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of the artist by Judith Leyster was sold in the Old Masters Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in December 2016. The price achieved of GBP 485,000.00 (€ 567,043.69) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Judith Leyster - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Merry Company, which sold at auction in December 2018 for GBP 1,808,750.00 (€ 2,015,107.91).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Portrait of the artist von Judith Leyster wurde im Dezember 2016 in der Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale bei Christies in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 485.000,00 (€ 567.043,69) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 400.000,00 – 600.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Judith Leyster mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Merry Company beobachtet, die im Dezember 2018 für GBP 1.808.750,00 (€ 2.015.107,91) versteigert wurde.
