Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Judith Leyster achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2016. In the Master Paintings & Sculpture Day Sale auction, the work Boy Peering Into An Earthenware Tankard sold for USD 162,500.00 (€ 150,018.46) - well above the upper estimate of USD 80,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Judith Leyster achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Merry Company in December 2018 with an auction result of GBP 1,808,750.00 (€ 2,015,107.91).
