In December 2012 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours, which included the work The Rape of the Sabines; and A classical hero ordering a sacrifice to Jupiter on the steps of the Temple of Minerva by Joseph Goupy. The result of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,316.47) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,500.00 – 4,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joseph Goupy - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Dream of Jacob; and Tobias and the Angel, both after Salvator Rosa, which sold at auction in January 2012 for USD 22,500.00 (€ 17,237.42).
