Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2021 Sothebys in London held the auction European & British Art, which included the work Study for St Dorothea and Her Two Sisters Refusing to Worship the Idol by Joseph Edward Southall. The price achieved of GBP 3,780.00 (€ 4,432.83) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Edward Southall achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Rose Bowl in July 2017 with an auction result of GBP 43,750.00 (€ 48,818.28).
