Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Mediterranean hillside village by Joseph Cartwright was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 179.25 (€ 253.69). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Cartwright achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Views In The Ionian Islands: The Town, Citadel, And The Harbour Of Corfu, From The Island Of Vido.Town; The Sanita, Or Health Office, At Santa Maura; View Of The Town And Harbour Of Vathi, In Ithaca; And The Piazza Of Saint Mark, In Zante in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 75,000.00 (€ 84,401.51).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A Mediterranean hillside village von Joseph Cartwright im Dezember 2004 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 300,00 – 500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 179,25 (€ 253,69) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joseph Cartwright erzielen.
