Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Grand Harbour, Valetta, by moonlight; and The Grand Harbour, Valetta, at sunset by Joseph Bonello was sold in the MARITIME AND NAVAL BATTLES auction at Christies in London in November 2003. The price achieved of GBP 470.00 (€ 674.69) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 400.00 – 600.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joseph Bonello - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Fishing boats before Valetta; and A view of Valetta, which sold at auction in March 2001 for GBP 998.75 (€ 1,611.58).
