Auction result misses estimated price range
In June 2004 a collector was able to acquire the work Caravan with the Pyramids and Sphinx beyond by Joseph Austin Benwell for GBP 5,975.00 (€ 8,892.59). This price was achieved in the auction 19TH CENTURY EUROPEAN ART at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 6,000.00 – 9,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joseph Austin Benwell - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Caravan Passing The Statues of Memnon In The Plain of Goorna At Thebes, which sold at auction in April 2006 for USD 31,200.00 (€ 24,714.83).
