The »bidding war« ended at GBP 517.00 (€ 834.73), 48% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joseph Athanase Aufray - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A basket of cherries, which sold at auction in March 2004 for GBP 1,792.50 (€ 2,683.21).

Die Arbeit A surprise for daddy von Joseph Athanase Aufray wurde im September 2001 in der Auktion British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 517,00 (€ 834,73) und damit 48% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Joseph Athanase Aufray mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A basket of cherries beobachtet, die im März 2004 für GBP 1.792,50 (€ 2.683,21) versteigert wurde.
