The work Portuguese O Barbeiro Da Aldeia (A Close Shave) by José Vital Branco Malhoa was sold in the 19th Century European Paintings including Spanish Painting, The Orientalist Sale, and German, Austrian, Scandinavian and Symbolist Works auction at Sothebys in London in November 2009. The price achieved of GBP 109,250.00 (€ 119,560.04) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 90,000.00 – 120,000.00. Admittedly, works by José Vital Branco Malhoa have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Jóvenes músicos (The young musicians) in June 2007 with an auction result of GBP 356,000.00 (€ 528,286.09).
