This artwork by Joos van Craesbeeck achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2018. In the The Otto Naumann Sale auction, the work A Peasant Grimacing, His Arm In A Sling sold for USD 40,000.00 (€ 32,185.39) - well above the upper estimate of USD 20,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Joos van Craesbeeck; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Fröhliche Gesellschaft sold at auction in July 2021 with the realized price of EUR 45,000.00.
