This price was achieved in the auction American Art at Bonhams in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 5,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Wilde; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Sleight of Hand sold at auction in May 2021 with the realized price of USD 62,812.50 (€ 51,510.99).
