In May 2021 Bonhams in Edinburgh held the auction Scottish Art, which included the work In Summer by John Smellie. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 44,000.00 (€ 51,195.01), 47% above the upper estimate. Other works by John Smellie have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of GBP 53,220.00 (€ 61,921.82) in May this year for the work On the Clyde.
