Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Old Mill, Dalchongie, Strathearn by John Smart, IV was sold in the British and Victorian Pictures auction at Christies in London in May 2002. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 500.00 – 700.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 528.75 (€ 828.03) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Smart, IV achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work This for the hole!: Golfing at Machrihanish in May 2012 with an auction result of GBP 51,650.00 (€ 64,353.63).
