Despite a disappointment, a good price for John Richard Coke Smyth
When the work Zita, A Huron Indian; Huron Indian; Indians Bartering; Moose Hunter by John Richard Coke Smyth was auctioned at Sothebys in Toronto in May 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of CAD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for CAD 4,500.00 (€ 3,231.01). Despite this disappointing result, Zita, A Huron Indian; Huron Indian; Indians Bartering; Moose Hunter is the most expensive artwork by John Richard Coke Smyth that we have observed at auction so far.
