Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The cotter's Saturday night: 'But hark a tap comes gently to the door, Jenny who kens the meaning of the same....' by John Raphael Smith was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2006. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,360.00 (€ 5,020.14) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Raphael Smith have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of John Horne Tooke (1736-1812), Small Full-Length, In A Black Sleeping Hat And Blue Suit, Reclining On A Bed in June 2005 with an auction result of GBP 18,000.00 (€ 26,677.14).
