Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Australian Pêcheur Sur Falaise by John Peter Russell was auctioned at Sothebys in Melbourne in May 2009, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of AUD 500,000.00 – 700,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for AUD 456,000.00 (€ 258,021.24). Admittedly, works by John Peter Russell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Australian Boys On The Beach, Belle-Ile in May 2007 with an auction result of AUD 1,800,000.00 (€ 1,106,786.59).
