In April 2011 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & Early British Paintings, which included the work Portrait Of Robert, Lord Bruce, Later 2Nd Earl Of Elgin And 1St Earl Of Ailesbury (C.1623/7-1685) by John Michael Wright. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 11,250.00 (€ 12,669.44), 41% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Michael Wright achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Highland Chieftain: Portrait of Lord Mungo Murray (1668-1700), full-length, in highland dress, holding a flintlock sporting gun in his right hand, a gilt-hilt ribbon basket sword at his left side, in a landscape with a flock of wild goats beyond in June 2000 with an auction result of GBP 322,750.00 (€ 511,59

Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Highland Chieftain: Portrait of Lord Mungo Murray (1668-1700), full-length, in highland dress, holding a flintlock sporting gun in his right hand, a gilt-hilt ribbon basket sword at his left side, in a landscape with a flock of wild goats beyond im Juni 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 322.750,00 (€ 511.598,48).
