This work of art by John McCracken could be acquired at Bonhams in Los Angeles in September last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Post-War & Contemporary Art X Made In California auction, the work Samothrace, 1988 changed hands for USD 48,255.00 (€ 49,325.36) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John McCracken achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work without title in November 2015 with an auction result of USD 965,000.00 (€ 913,652.72).
