Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by John Gould achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in May last year. In the The Library of Henry Rogers Broughton, 2nd Baron Fairhaven Part I auction, the work A century of birds from the Himalayan mountains, 1832 sold for GBP 27,720.00 (€ 32,609.94) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Gould achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Birds of Australia, [1840- 1848-1869, 8 volumes including Supplement|AID711784] in May last year with an auction result of GBP 302,400.00 (€ 355,744.81).
