Auction result well in line with expectations
In April 2012 Christies in London held the auction Travel, Science and Natural History, which included the work Cometes Sparganurus; Threnetes Antoniae; Phaëthornis Pygmaeus; Ramphomicron Ruficeps; Ramphomicron Heteropogon; Thaumastura Enicura; Ramphomicron Herrani; Phaëthornis Syrmatophorus; Ramphomicron Stanleyi; Phaëthornis Hispidus; and Threnetes Leucur by John Gould. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 700.00 – 1,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 750.00 (€ 919.85) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Gould achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Birds of Australia, [1840- 1848-1869, 8 volumes including Supplement|AID711784] in May last year with an auction result of GBP 302,400.00 (€ 355,744.81).
