In the British, Victorian and Scottish Pictures including Pictures auction, the work Dark sea off Boddin Point sold for GBP 1,762.50 (€ 2,881.22) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Gardiner Crawford; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Boddin Bay sold at auction in March 2002 with the realized price of GBP 1,997.50 (€ 3,265.39).
