Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Untitled (Man reading Playboy) by John Dempsey was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2003, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,912.00 (€ 1,517.82). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Dempsey - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work You certainly look different without your dictation pad, Miss Bloom, which sold at auction in December 2003 for USD 4,182.50 (€ 3,320.23).
