Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Grand Consul of the Great Nation!!! Perusing John Bull's Dispatches!!! by John Cawse was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 800.00 – 1,200.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 478.00 (€ 353.08). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Cawse achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'On her Spanish guitar, she played a ditty which lulled her old guardian to sleep' in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 3,525.00 (€ 4,911.21).

Als die Arbeit The Grand Consul of the Great Nation!!! Perusing John Bull's Dispatches!!! von John Cawse im Dezember 2004 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 800,00 – 1.200,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 478,00 (€ 353,08) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Cawse erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit 'On her Spanish guitar, she played a ditty which lulled her old guardian to sleep' im Mai 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 3.525,00 (€ 4.911,21).
