Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Blind Nobleman And His Cuckold by John Cawse was sold in the British and Victorian Paintings auction at Christies in London in September 2004. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 836.50 (€ 1,218.67) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Cawse have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work 'On her Spanish guitar, she played a ditty which lulled her old guardian to sleep' in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 3,525.00 (€ 4,911.21).
