In November 2004 Christies in Melbourne held the auction COLES MYER COLLECTION, which included the work The Hush Of Evening, Snowy River, Orbost Victoria by John C. Downton. The »bidding war« ended at AUD 5,377.50 (€ 3,132.24), 34% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John C. Downton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work View From The Bridge, International Naval Review Day, 1988, which sold at auction in November 2004 for AUD 16,730.00 (€ 9,744.76).

Im November 2004 führte Christies in Melbourne die Auktion COLES MYER COLLECTION durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Hush Of Evening, Snowy River, Orbost Victoria von John C. Downton zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von AUD 5.377,50 (€ 3.132,24) und damit 34% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von John C. Downton mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit View From The Bridge, International Naval Review Day, 1988 beobachtet, die im November 2004 für AUD 16.730,00 (€ 9.744,76) versteigert wurde.
