Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2004 Christies in Melbourne held the auction COLES MYER COLLECTION, which included the work Stirling Range, Western Australia by John C. Downton. It changed hands for a price of AUD 2,868.00 (€ 1,670.53) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of AUD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Admittedly, works by John C. Downton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work View From The Bridge, International Naval Review Day, 1988 in November 2004 with an auction result of AUD 16,730.00 (€ 9,744.76).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November 2004 führte Christies in Melbourne die Auktion COLES MYER COLLECTION durch, in der auch die Arbeit Stirling Range, Western Australia von John C. Downton zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von AUD 2.868,00 (€ 1.670,53) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von AUD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John C. Downton auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit View From The Bridge, International Naval Review Day, 1988 im November 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von AUD 16.730,00 (€ 9.744,76).
