Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Corner of the Old Road, Claughton, near Scarborough by John Atkinson Grimshaw was auctioned at Christies in New York in May this year. The price achieved of GBP 40,320.00 (€ 46,912.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Atkinson Grimshaw achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Liverpool Custom House And Wapping in December 2006 with an auction result of GBP 612,800.00 (€ 909,471.91).
