Auction result misses estimated price range
In May this year a collector was able to acquire the work A lane near Chester by John Atkinson Grimshaw for GBP 63,000.00 (€ 73,300.92). This price was achieved in the auction Three Private Collections: Belgravia, Berkshire and Guernsey at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of GBP 70,000.00 – 100,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Atkinson Grimshaw achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Liverpool Custom House And Wapping in December 2006 with an auction result of GBP 612,800.00 (€ 909,471.91).
