Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Allcot could be acquired at Christies in London in May 2004 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Maritime Pictures auction, the work The Blue Star Line's Queensland Star in Sydney Harbour, with the America's Cup yacht Gretel and her sparring partner Vim undergoing trials in the foreground changed hands for GBP 1,195.00 (€ 1,792.94) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Allcot - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Buckingham, which sold at auction in April 2003 for AUD 11,750.00 (€ 5,991.73).
