Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Evening Prayers On An Emigrant Ship; And Crossing The Ocean To Distant Lands (Illustrated) by John Absolon was auctioned at Christies in London in April 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 500.00 (€ 590.03). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Absolon - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Mussel gatherers on the beach, which sold at auction in March 2001 for GBP 1,175.00 (€ 1,895.98).
