In November 2005 Christies in London held the auction MARITIME PICTURES, which included the work R.M.S. Aquitania Under Tug Escort Off St. Helen'S Fort In The Solent by John A. Stewart. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 960.00 (€ 1,410.36), 37% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John A. Stewart - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The S.S. Liberte and the S. S. Independence passing the Statue of Liberty, which sold at auction in June 2007 for USD 5,760.00 (€ 4,260.36).
