This artwork by Johann Jakob Müller achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March 2004. In the At Home - Portrait Miniatures, Objects of Vertu and Silver auction, the work A gentleman and three young ladies, all in profile: he, in a coat and stock; the sisters, in white dresses with fichus and wearing bonnets with a ribbon sold for GBP 836.50 (€ 1,252.16) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 300.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Johann Jakob Müller; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Selbstporträt des Künstlers, 1795. sold at auction in September 2009 with the realized price of CHF 1,920.00 (€ 1,264.86).
