The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 12,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 40,320.00 (€ 37,133.91). This high result makes Mt. Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples the most expensive artwork by Johann Hermann Carmiencke that we have observed at auctions so far.
