Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price

When the work The winning hand by Ernest Meissonier was auctioned at Bonhams in London in November last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 5,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 24,225.00 (€ 28,071.24). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ernest Meissonier achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work French les Deux Amis in November 2015 with an auction result of USD 442,000.00 (€ 418,481.35).

Kunstwerk zum Vierfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert

Als die Arbeit The winning hand von Ernest Meissonier im November letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in London versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 5.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 24.225,00 (€ 28.071,24) mehr als viermal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ernest Meissonier erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit French les Deux Amis im November 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 442.000,00 (€ 418.481,35).
