Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work French un Cuirassier by Ernest Meissonier was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in February 2018, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 7,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 21,250.00 (€ 17,402.34). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ernest Meissonier achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work French les Deux Amis in November 2015 with an auction result of USD 442,000.00 (€ 418,481.35).
