Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2002 Christies in London held the auction Important Gold Boxes, Objects of Vertu and Portrait, which included the work A young lady, full face in maroon dress, gold clasped belt, white shirt with high standing spotted collar, coral and gold comb in her upswept and curled fair hair by Jean-François-Gérard Fontallard. The price achieved of GBP 2,629.00 (€ 4,035.65) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-François-Gérard Fontallard - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Juliette Récamier (1777-1849), Circa 1805, which sold at auction in July 2019 for GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,037.96).
