In May 2019 Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings, which included the work The Death Of Dido, A Bozzetto by Jean-Bernard Restout. The »bidding war« ended at USD 27,500.00 (€ 24,665.89), 72% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Jean-Bernard Restout have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Pleasures Of Anacreon in June 2012 with an auction result of USD 170,500.00 (€ 134,591.10).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 72 % übertroffen
Im Mai 2019 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Master Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Death Of Dido, A Bozzetto von Jean-Bernard Restout zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 27.500,00 (€ 24.665,89) und damit 72% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Jean-Bernard Restout auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Pleasures Of Anacreon im Juni 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 170.500,00 (€ 134.591,10).
