Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of William Murray, 1St Earl Of Mansfield (1705-1793), Holding A Book And A Quill by Jean-Baptiste van Loo was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in London in December 2010. The price achieved of GBP 73,250.00 (€ 84,969.78) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 60,000.00 – 80,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-Baptiste van Loo - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Louis Xv, King Of France (1710-1774), Full-Length, which sold at auction in July 2009 for GBP 181,250.00 (€ 205,664.42).
