Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Procession Of The Chinese Masquerade Staged By The French Academy In Rome by Jean-Baptiste-Marie Pierre was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 23,750.00 (€ 27,138.51). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Baptiste-Marie Pierre achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Paysage Avec Personnages Jouant De La Musique Et Dansant in June 2016 with an auction result of EUR 363,000.00.
