Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Portrait Of A Lady, Circa 1795 by Jean-Baptiste Joseph Le Tellier was auctioned at Sothebys in London in April 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,200.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 5,292.00 (€ 6,087.34). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jean-Baptiste Joseph Le Tellier; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A mother and child; she, facing right in black sleeveless gown with white underdress, pink stole, long light brown curling hair; holding her young baby beside her with white robe draped across his body, auburn hair; rock, foliate and landscape backgr sold at auction in May 2000 with the realized price of GBP 7,050.00 (€
