Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A young gentleman, facing right in blue coat, white waistcoat and tied cravat, curly brown hair by Jean-Antoine Laurent was sold in the IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU auction at Christies in London in May 2002. The price achieved of GBP 2,031.50 (€ 3,181.36) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Laurent achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The artist's daughters as young girls: the elder in green bordered loose white dress with green ribbon bow and long curling fair hair, seated on a wooden chair strewn with pink roses and leaves and pink roses and leaves in her lap; the younger girl h in May 2000 with an auction result of GBP 22,325.00 (€ 35,8
