British-born photographer Janette Beckman began her career at the dawn of punk rock working for music magazines The Face and Melody Maker. She shot bands from The Clash to Boy George as well as three Police album covers. Drawn to the underground Hip Hop scene, she moved to NYC in 1983 and photographed pioneers Run DMC, Slick Rick, Salt-N-Pepa, Grand Master Flash, LL Cool J and many more. The price achieved of USD 3,024.00 (€ 2,580.65) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 2,500.00 – 3,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Janette Beckman - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Run Dmc, 1984, Hollis, Queens (Silver Border). Silkscreen. 2017., which sold at auction in September 2020 for USD 8,190.00 (€ 6,989.25).
