This image was part of the 1990 photo shoot for the cover of Beckman's first book "Rap, Portraits and Lyrics of a Generation of Black Rockers" co authored by Bill Adler. The book came out in 1991.
British-born photographer Janette Beckman began her career at the dawn of punk rock working for music magazines The Face and Melody Maker. She shot bands from The Clash to Boy George as well as three Police album covers. Drawn to the underground Hip Hop scene, she moved to NYC in 1983 and photographed pioneers Run DMC, Slick Rick, Salt-N-Pepa, Grand Master Flash, LL Cool J and many more. Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2020 Sothebys in New York held the auction Hip Hop, which included the work Big Daddy Kane. Silkscreen. 2017. by Janette Beckman. The price achieved of USD 3,528.00 (€ 3,010.75) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Janette Beckman - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Run Dmc, 1984, Hollis, Queens (Silver Border). Silkscreen. 2017., which sold at auction in September 2020 for USD 8,190.00 (€ 6,989.25).

Im September 2020 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Hip Hop durch, in der auch die Arbeit Big Daddy Kane. Silkscreen. 2017. von Janette Beckman zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 3.528,00 (€ 3.010,75) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Janette Beckman mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Run Dmc, 1984, Hollis, Queens (Silver Border).
