Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work View Of A Village Street With Thatched Cottages by Jan Baptist Weenix was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,375.00 (€ 1,578.02). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Baptist Weenix achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Italianate landscape with a shepherd showing a woman his flock in December 2018 with an auction result of GBP 248,750.00 (€ 277,129.56).
