Upper estimate price exceeded by 47 %.
The work Study of ruined buildings by Jan Baptist Weenix was sold in the Old Master Drawings auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2021. The »bidding war« ended at USD 8,820.00 (€ 7,268.23), 47% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Baptist Weenix achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Italianate landscape with a shepherd showing a woman his flock in December 2018 with an auction result of GBP 248,750.00 (€ 277,129.56).
