Auction result misses estimated price range
In October 2016 a collector was able to acquire the work Twilight at Trempealeau, Wisconsin by James Cook for USD 500.00 (€ 456.12). This price was achieved in the auction Living with Art at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 800.00 – 1,200.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Cook - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Journals of Captain James Cook on his Voyages of Discovery, Cambridge: Hakluyt Society, 1955-74. 6 volumes in 5, including portfolio of charts and views and Beaglehole's The Life of Captain James Cook, text volumes 8° (24 x 16cm.), portfolio 2° (39.5, which sold at auction in September 2001 for GBP 646.25 (€ 1,043.42).
