This price was achieved in the auction Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures) at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by James Brereton; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Cornish breakers sold at auction in May 2012 with the realized price of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 9,344.67).
