(87 mm.) high, in original fitted fishskin-covered case with clouté border, contained in a hinged silver fitted case engraved on the cover, 'Within this box / is King James y e eight his picture / which he sat to in S t Germaines, / in France, in May:1703, & gave it / out of his owne hand, to Simon Lord / Frasier of Lovat, chief of y e famous / & innuberous Kindred, & Clann of the / Frasers in Scotland, as a particular / mark of his love & favour to y e said L d, / for his Ancestors Loyalty, & for his / owne great services to his Father King / James y e seventh, while in banish= / ment, & his extrordinary service / & hasards he run in helpin g / to restore his Majes t y', and on the base 'J A Arlaud / pinxit ad - vivum. / Anno - 1703 - mense maio / (Added from inscription on back of Miniature, 1858.)'
