This artwork by Jacobus Melchior van Herck achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2002. In the OLD MASTER PICTURES auction, the work Tulips, roses, hyacinths and other flowers in a sculpted vase, with pears and grapes on a stone ledge sold for EUR 15,535.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 8,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jacobus Melchior van Herck; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of Maria Luisa of Savoy, Queen of Spain, in a garland held aloft by putti with flowers in a landscape sold at auction in December 2002 with the realized price of GBP 19,975.00 (€ 30,662.63).
